When a dental bridge is used, the teeth on either side of the space are prepared for crowns. The
two crowns are attached by a pontic, or false tooth. There is a space between the pontic and the gum
tissue that must be kept clean in order to keep the tissue healthy. Once a bridge is put in place
it is cemented, which means it cannot be taken in and out. A dental bridge is a good option if
the two teeth being prepared are broken, cracked, or have large fillings that are or could be leaking.
If the teeth next to the space or spaces have no restorations in them, however, it may be wiser
to choose a dental implant.
